Fernie, BC is known for one thing in the wintertime: winter sports. Thanks to Fernie Alpine Resort, located on the Lizard Range, we are home to one of the best ski and snowboarding mountains in all of Canada. The city comes alive every December, as soon as Fernie Alpine Resort opens for the season. This year, Winter Opening Day is tentatively scheduled for December 5, so you better mark your calendars!

Fernie Alpine Resort is the epitome of a winter wonderland, especially for avid skiers and snowboarders alike. With over 2,400 acres of fresh powder and 142 different runs of varying difficulties, there is something for everyone. (There is even a Snow School for anyone new to the sport or in need of a refresher.) And for those that don’t know, Fernie Alpine Resort is known for its high annual snowfall, which makes it one of the top spots for powder skiing in all of the Rockies.

Beyond skiing and snowboarding, there are plenty of other reasons to visit Fernie Alpine Resort this winter. Snowshoeing, holiday sleigh rides, winter fat biking, and cross country skiing are all offered here. There are even weekly yoga and stretching classes in Lizard Creek Lodge.

Once open, the resort will remain open daily until April 2021. With everything going on this year, special COVID-19 protocols are in place and must be followed. For example, face masks or coverings are required in lift lines and while riding on the chair lifts, and all rental and retail shops, as well as food and beverage outlets will have limited capacities to ensure social distancing.

Lift tickets, season passes, and Snow School lessons can all be purchased online in advance of your visit. Typically, Fernie Alpine Resort offers deals and discounts the earlier you book, so be sure to check out their website if you know you’ll be visiting this winter.

If you plan on hitting the slopes this winter, then you’ll want to book a room at the Fernie Stanford Resort. We combine quality accommodation and top-notch amenities with a picturesque alpine location and unbeatable prices.
